Mayor Dave Ament is happy to announce Dr. Arthur Angove as the recipient of the 2021 New Berlin Citizen of the Year Award. Dr. Angove has lived in New Berlin since 1966 and has profoundly impacted New Berlin and the world community.
Dr. Angove has served on numerous local boards and associations throughout the years including the New Berlin Senior Citizens Club, New Berlin Historical Society, New Berlin Police Citizens Academy Alumni Association (NBPCAAA), Medical Director for the New Berlin School District, Team Physician for New Berlin West High School, New Berlin School Board clerk, American Legion Post #488, and as President of the New Berlin Rotary Club. He was general surgeon at the New Berlin Community Memorial Hospital where he became Chief of Surgery from 1968-1988.
His outreach to the community extends beyond New Berlin and includes numerous medical affiliations including, but not limited to, the American Osteopathic Association, American Medical Association, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, Wisconsin Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Wisconsin Medical Society, and the Milwaukee Academy of Medicine. In addition Dr. Angove has served as President of the Christian Kako Retreat Center at the Russian Mission in Alaska and has participated in Medical Missions in Yucatan, Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Kenya, East Africa, Saipan and Taiwan. He cofounded Volunteer Intertribal Medicine to provide medical care for 11 Wisconsin native tribes and bands.

He is a very busy and kind man who has lived his life in gratitude to God’ stated Mayor Dave Ament. “Dr. Angove has given tirelessly to this community and to the larger community beyond our local borders.”
Since Dr. Angove served in the US Air Force Air Defense Command, and is currently the Chaplain and Bugler for the American Legion Post #488, the Mayor will present the award on Thursday, November 11th at 7 pm as part of the City’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony in the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 3805 S Casper Drive. All are welcome to attend in support of this outstanding New Berlin resident.
