[ARCHIVED] A Letter From the Mayor Regarding Emergency Order #1

EO

To our New Berlin Business Owners and Residents:

On July 30th, Governor Evers issued Executive Order #82 declaring a State of Emergency.   His Emergency Order #1 was then subsequently issued requiring face coverings for every individual, age five and older, while inside public buildings effective August 1st through September 28th.  Please review EO #1 and the FAQs for further information and exceptions.

Unfortunately, this mandate will have the biggest impact on our local businesses/restaurants who are now being directed to follow this State Order.   However, the City of New Berlin would still expect our business owners to respect this Emergency Order as long as it remains in effect and to make every reasonable effort to abide by the Governor’s directive.

We ask residents if you see someone not wearing a mask, please DO NOT call the police.  Some people have health conditions that make wearing a face mask difficult or dangerous.  Our Police Department does not have the resources to follow through on such complaints and will not be responding to those cases.

Please keep in mind that private businesses and public buildings should now be requiring a mask to gain admittance to their facility. However, as previously stated there are age and health exceptions to the wearing of a mask. If a facility owner feels there is a blatant failure to follow the mask mandate by a customer and a disruption occurs, our police officers will respond to ensure a safe conclusion for everyone involved.

Information about Waukesha County’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic may be found on the county’s website www.waukeshacounty.gov/COVID19 and on social media accounts. Waukesha County is also offering resources for businesses and residents to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 through the “Stay Safe to Stay Open” campaign. More information is available at www.waukeshacounty.gov/safeopen.

It is always the preference of the City of New Berlin to educate the public about the Governor’s order and seek voluntary compliance amongst our businesses and residents.  Please be respectful of your fellow citizens and their choices during this pandemic.

Sincerely,

Mayor Dave Ament
