Waukesha County Recycling introduces TURN OVER A NEW LEAF - Yard Debris Management Program

TURN OVER A NEW LEAF

Yard Debris Management Program

Saves Time and Tax Dollars

Waukesha, Wisconsin – October 12, 2006 – Waukesha County Recycling & Solid Waste Office is launching a home yard debris management program called "Turn Over a New Leaf". The program emphasizes homeowners' options in handling their own yard debris that will save tax dollars, improve air quality, and in the case of composting, provide a soil amendment that adds nutrients and increases water retention.

Proper yard debris management can save municipalities a lot of money, and residents a lot of time. To encourage recycling grass and leaves, the County developed a video "Turn Over A New Leaf" that shows how to mulch leaves on the lawn instead of burning or bagging them. The video explains why mulching leaves saves money and the environment. Copies of the video have been distributed to all county public libraries and it can also be viewed on the Waukesha County website

www.waukeshacounty.gov/recycling, click on Yard Waste and Composting.

Residents can pick up a "Turn Over A New Leaf" bookmark with tips on managing yard debris at their city, town or village hall or at any local library. More information on composting and leaf mulching is available at the Be SMART (Save Money And Reduce Trash) website www.besmart.org
