New Textile Recycling at New Berlin
Americans recover less than 14% of clothing and bed linens, leaving 86% to be thrown away. While many people already donate usable clothing to non-profit organizations, City of New Berlin residents now have an additional opportunity to recycle their used textiles.
The City of New Berlin is working with a textile recycling company called U'SAgain that accepts used clothing, bedding, pillows, towels, rags and shoes. The red drop box can be found at the Recycling center.
How are these items used?
In January 2004, U'S Again donated 50 children's coats and 200 pounds of children's books to an elementary school in Auaora Illinois, while other books were placed in the library for general use.
Approximately 80% of clothing recovered by U'SAgain is reused as clothing. The remainder is recycled into items such as insulation and wiping rags.
Some of the profit from sales of these items are returned to the City of New Berlin's general fund. |
