     Mayor's Office Department Functions

Administration

  • Provides and fulfills chief executive officer responsibilities for the City.
  • Exercises all of the executive powers on behalf of the municipality.
  • Acts as presiding officer at Common Council Meetings.
  • Chairs or participates in various boards, commissions, and committees.
  • Supervises and directs day-to-day operations of City Government to "take care that City ordinances and State laws are observed and enforced and that all city offices and employees discharge their duties." (State Statutes 62.09(8)a)
  • Executes all municipal financial and contractual obligations.
  • Prepares executive budget for recommendations to Common Council.
  • Provides administrative and clerical response support to Mayor, Emergency Government Director, and Weed Commissioner.
  • Coordinates and implements various city activities, events, and programs.
  • Conducts investigations into matters relating to the affairs of the City and recommends action to the Common Council.

Liaison

  • Provides liaison service to aldermen and local, county, state and national elected officials.
  • Provides assistance and disseminates information to the general public regarding City policies and procedures.
  • Provides liaison service to local civic organizations.
  • Responds to citizen concerns and complaints.
  • Provides liaison service to and between aldermen and department heads and staff.

Programming

Mayoral Appointments

  • Makes appointments to the City's boards, commissions, and committees.
  • Updates Boards and Commissions History List and Reference Binder
  • Recommends appointments of department heads to Common Council.

Public Relations

  • Coordinates and gives City Hall tours.
  • Issues press releases.
  • Issues Proclamations and Certificates of Recognitions.
  • Performs ceremonial duties at public functions, i.e. ribbon cutting, groundbreaking.
  • Speaks to civic groups and at public meetings.
  • Coordinates information for the Mayor's web page.
  • Follows through with the Cutomer Service Committee's initiatives (employee training, customer service surveys, Employee Recognition (Logo Chip Program).
  • Coordinates and maintains the merchandise for the City's Logo Shop.
  • Coordinates compilation and distribution of New Resident Packets.

Employee Recognition

  • Coordinates service award program.
  • Coordinates retirement parties and going away recognition receptions for department heads.
  • Chairs Employee Recognition Committee, which plans Annual Employee Recognition Barbecue.
  • Coordinates John W. Bauer Award for Municipal Excellence.
