Inspection Services

The greatest asset of our City is the people that make New Berlin their home. Our concerns are with the life safety issues that present themselves during the various construction activities that take place in the homes and businesses of New Berlin. The State of Wisconsin has always prided itself on its progressive approach in protecting its citizens by adopting and implementing thorough building, plumbing and electrical codes. Cities and municipalities are then charged with the duty to protect the public by the enforcement of these codes. Permits are used to keep track of the work that goes on and the permit fees pay for the inspections and record keeping functions of the department.

Common Improvements Requiring Permits:

  • Additions and alterations (interior & exterior)
  • Structural alterations
  • Decks (attached, detached & decks around pools)
  • Garages (attached & detached)
  • Tool sheds
  • Gazebos
  • Rec-rooms
  • New installation or replacement of the following:
    Air conditioners
Furnaces – (also includes coal & wood burning stoves and fireplaces)
    Hot tubs
Swimming pools (above ground & in-ground)
